Resonance phenomena in the disintegration of fluorine by protons
The bombardment of fluorine with protons gives rise to a strong emission ofy-radiation of quantum energy about 6-0 x 106 eV. The excitation function for this process shows a series of sharp resonances for proton energies up to about 2 x 106eV (Hafstad, Heydenburg and Tuve 1936; Bernet, Herb and Parkinson 1938; Curran, Dee and Petrzilka 1938). If the y-rays are a ttri buted to a simple capture ...
متن کاملNuclear magnetic resonance study of hydrogen-bonded ring protons in Watson-Crick base pairs.
We have studied the low-field proton magnetic resonance spectrum of the double-helical complex of d(A-A-C-A-A) with d(T-T-G-T-T). Well-resolved resonances for the thymidine N(3) and the guanosine N(1) protons are seen at 1 degrees C, which broaden by 4 degrees C and disappear above 9 degrees C. The actual T(m) of the complex was found to be 28 degrees C by measurement of UV-absorbance change. T...
متن کاملRetrieving Nuclear Information from Protons Propagating through a Thick Target
The multiple scattering of high-energy particles in a thick target is formulated in an impact parameter representation. A formalism similar but not identical to that of Molière is obtained. We show that calculations of particle beam broadening due to multiple Coulomb scattering alone can be given in closed form. The focus of this study is on whether or not the broadening of the Coulomb angular ...
متن کاملNuclear transparency to intermediate-energy protons.
Nuclear transparency in the (e, e′p) reaction for 135 ≤ Tp ≤ 800 MeV is investigated using the distorted wave approximation. Calculations using densitydependent effective interactions, both empirical and theoretical, are compared with phenomenological optical potentials. We find that nuclear transparency is well correlated with proton absorption and neutron total cross sections and that calcula...
متن کاملWeak capture of protons by protons
The cross section for the proton weak capture reaction H(p,eνe) H is calculated with wave functions obtained from a number of modern, realistic high-precision interactions. To minimize the uncertainty in the axial two-body current operator, its matrix element has been adjusted to reproduce the measured Gamow-Teller matrix element of tritium β decay in model calculations using trinucleon wave fu...
